Registrar tasks Unilorin staff on community service

Mr Mansur Alfanla, the Registrar of University of Ilorin (Unilorin), has urged workers of the institution to pursue the stability, progress and development of the university’s host community as well as those of their respective ancestral communities.

The registrar made the call on Sunday in Ilorin during the presentation of a book titled: “Ilorin Emirate’s Frontliners”, written by Mr Abubakar Imam, Assistant Director (Information) at the Directorate of Corporate Affairs, Unilorin,

He submitted that community service is one of the integral essence of a university, which every employee of such an institution must work towards.

“It is incumbent on all university employees to ensure that they contribute their quota to community development in one way or the other,” he advised.

Alfanla commended Imam for writing the book, which explores the careers and contributions of leading indigenes and residents of Ilorin Emirate to national and human development.

While encouraging others to emulate the enterprising and patriotic disposition of Imam, the registrar assured members of staff of the support of the present administration towards assisting them in the pursuit of their lofty dreams.a

Erlier, Imam, who is also the National Secretary of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), said that he was encouraged to publish the book as a way of preserving the contributions of the accomplished indigenes and residents of the university’s host community.

He explained that this is his own quota to community development coupled with his conviction that the stories of those featured would encourage younger ones to emulate them.
