Rosemary Okafor, a veteran national athlete and Olympian has boosted the morale of the Anambra Athletics team to the 7th National Youth Games holding in Asaba, Delta State with N100,000.
Okafor`s message was delivered by Coach Johnny Igboka, Coordinator of the team to Patrick-Estate Onyedum, Chairman of Anambrae Sports Development Commission on Sunday in Asaba.
Igboka said the gesture would complement what the state government had provided to take care of the team`s contingencies.
Responding, Onyedum thanked Okafor for her magnanimity.
Onyedum said the gesture was in line with the State government’s policy to drive sports in partnership with private sector involvement.
“This is a welcome development, it feels good to see those who made it through sports giving back to support the younger ones as a way of encouraging them.
“The value is not in the amount given but the spirit behind it, we are grateful and we encourage others to take a cue.
“If these veterans cannot support the entire team, they can support their own sports in particular,” he said.
The Anambra Athletics team to the youth games comprised 24 athletes and six officials.
