LG chairman seeks better security arrangement in Ikorodu

Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Lagos State, Mr Wasiu Adesina, on Monday charged the local security outfits in the area to work in synergy with the Nigeria Police.

He said during the inauguration of the Joint Task Force (JTF), at the council Secretariat in Ikorodu, that this was necessary toward ensuring safety of lives and property in the area.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the chairman donated utility vehicles and motorcycles to facilitate the operations of the JTF in fighting crimes in the community.

Personnel of the JTF were selected from existing chmmunity groups that include the Vigilante Group of Nigeria.

“I am happy that the inauguration of JTF in Ikorodu is taking place today and urge them to work with Nigeria police.

“What we have done is to coordinate the activities of the already established security groups.

“We put them together to ensure peace and security of lives and property of residents within the local government area.

“What we have done today will put rest in the minds of millions of residents in terms of security issue,” he emphasised.

According to him the executive council has sent an executive bill to the council’s legislative arm during the process and a Bi-law was enacted to guide the operations of the JTF.

The chairman said they should work in synergy with police for effective and wider coverage of the area, considering the fact that they were indigenes and would be abreast of the terrain.

” You are very much aware of all criminal hideouts and the black spots, hence our decision to engage you in this important task,” he said.

The council boss advised the officers to work diligently with the police and not make unnecessary arrests.

He appreciated Gov. Babajide Sanwoolu for his effort in ensuring that Lagos remained peaceful, while commending a former Deputy Governor, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, for ensuring that the security architecture of the area became a reality.

“The local security outfit is a planned and coordinated response in line with my resolve to end the crime rates within the local government.

“The idea of establishing the outfit is in line with the THEMES agenda of the governor of the state”

Earlier, Prince Ogunleye, urged all the local security outfits to work together for effective and efficient service delivery to the people of the local government and the Local Council Development Areas.

According to him, since the coordination of local security outfits is under the supervision of the local governments, all the councils should work together so that there would be no hideouts for criminals in all the communities”.

The Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Shotobi, represented by Baale Ojogbe, Kayode Olomo, urged the council to engage the personnel on continuous training for uptimal performance.

Also speaking, Mr Eniola Davies, Head of the local security outfit, promised that they would discharge their duties in accordance with the law and work in synergy with the police to combat insecurity.

Mr Gbolahan Ogunleye, member Lagos House of Assembly; Area Commander, Area N, ACP Bawa Saidu; Divisional Police Officer(DPO) Igbogbo Division CSP Aderemi Balogun, political and community leaders also attended the event.
