Association hails Adeniyi’s confirmation as Customs Comptroller General

The Maritime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria (MARAN) has hailed the Federal Government over the confirmation of Adewale Adeniyi as the substantive Comptroller General of Customs (CGC).

The President of the association, Mr Godfrey Bivbere, in a statement in Lagos, on Sunday described the development as a welcomed step which had allayed the worries of stakeholders in the industry.

According Bivbere, President Bola Tinubu has through the confirmation further demonstrated that excellence will always be rewarded.

“The appointment of Adeniyi brought so much excitement to the industry in the first place.

“This confirmation will go a step further to re-energise the CGC to deliver on his mandate of facilitating trade and building a virile customs service that can be at par with global standards.

“We have no doubt that the CGC will be buoyed by this confirmation to do more than he has been doing since he was first appointed in an acting capacity,” he said.

It would be recalled that President Tinubu had on June 19 announced Adeniyi as the acting CG of customs to wide acclaim.

On Oct. 20, Mr Willie Bassey, Director Information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation in a statement issued in Abuja announced the confirmation.

According to the statement, the President urged Adeniyi to bring his wealth of experience to bear on his new assignment.

The appointment takes effect from Oct. 19 and his tenure is in accordance with the extant provisions of the Public Service Rules (PSR).
